About our Music Workshops

We have standard workshops that are tailored to your needs or we love the challenge of creating new projects. Whether music is new to your organisation or you have a strong history of music participation, we can create a project that fits your needs: from a general introduction to a specific brief – our most specific brief was “we need a Junk Percussion Samba workshop on the theme of space!”

We know the value of having a record of your project so we are happy to for you to record the workshops / performances – audio, video or photograph.

Music Workshops throughout the UK

The Music Workshop Company administrative team are based in Hertfordshire, but we work with a wide range of musicians based all over the UK. Projects have taken us from Southampton to the Shetland Islands, from Anglesey to East Anglia.

All the Music Workshop Company musicians are professional music facilitators or workshop leaders. Many of our musicians also teach and perform at the highest levels as soloists, with their own ensembles, in recording sessions and with top orchestras. All have a wide experience of leading workshops and have Enhanced DBS / CRB checks which can be supplied.

Are Music Workshops suitable for you?

We have supplied projects to Primary schools, Secondary Schools, Young Offenders institutes, Youth Clubs, Event Organisers, Amateur choirs / orchestras, Leisure Centres, Hospitals, Museums and Summer Schools. We have supplied workshops to support G.C.S.E. and A-Level courses, for Arts weeks and Multi-cultural weeks, to supplement the National Curriculum, for Christmas parties, for festivals, for inset days, for drama projects, for conferences, for training days and careers days…. Why not contact us to discuss ideas for your next project?

The Music Workshop Company Team

Maria Thomas, Founder & Artistic Director

Maria is passionate about Music Education and splits her time between The Music Workshop Company (both behind the scenes & running workshops) & her role as Principal Lecturer in Entrepreneurship & Strategy for the Music Department in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Hertfordshire.

Maria studied at Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance) before starting her career at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in the Orchestra Office. In 2002, she left The Royal Opera House to set up The Music Workshop Company.

Since 2002, Maria has worked on projects with a range of Arts organisations and Artists / Ensembles including English Sinfonia, St Albans Arts (STARTS), Stan Tracey, Manning Camerata, ViolinSchool, Simon Hewitt Jones & the Haiyan Recital Series. Maria was a Founding Director & later Festival Manager of the Hatfield House Chamber Music Festival, working alongside Guy Johnston, the Artistic Director.

Maria's favourite gig was a performance she organised by the Manning Camerata at the Louvre, Paris. An amazing setting for a concert with the wonderful Alexandra Kurzak as soloist.
